Give Me Now: Rachel Pally Cutout Dress ( + how to maximize a maxi)

I am in l.o.v.e with this Rachel Pally dress. The cutouts, the deep neckline and the fit around the upper bodythese are all things that meet my maxi criteria and make me want to buy it. Now.

But, I haven't always been a fan of the maxi dress. Ringing in at just under 5'4, the thought of wearing this style used to terrify me. The last thing I need is to look like my body got lost under my clothes and my legs disappeared.  No. Thanks.

But, that was before I saw the light. I finally took the plunge last summer, and after discovering a couple of tricks, I'm pleased to say that you do not have to be tall to embrace a long hemline!

Tips to maximize the maxi—a guide for us little ladies:

  • Steer clear of the shapeless, bag-like designs. Those are the ones that don't agree with our small frames!
  •  Details, Details, Details. From delicate buttons to draping or belting, it's these little things that will give the dress shape.
  • Don't be afraid to show some skin. Whether it's a deep neckline, a backless getup, a side slit, or chic cutouts, this will help to accentuate your features and show that, why yes, you do have a body.
  • Rise on up! Throw on a pair of wedges to really look long and lean in that maxi!

Weekend in New Orleans

I spent the weekend in New Orleans with my family and could not have had a better time. From the food to the architecture to the shopping, I love the southern charm of this city. Below are a few snapshots of the trip. Enjoy!

Getting my palm read in Jackson Square by "Cowboy." He had some interesting predictions for my future... guess we'll just have to see if they come true!

We stumbled across this non-traditonal bride taking wedding pictures on the street. My photography-savvy sister, Aubrey, snapped this shot.

Yummy Chocolate Pudding Cake with Cashew Ice Cream and Coco Nib Caramel Corn at Herb Saint

My favorite boutique of the weekend, Naaz. I picked up some great spring staples here that I can't wait to share with you soon!

Happy campers after a delicious dinner at Tommy's

Online Obsession: Threadsence

Meet my latest online obsession: Threadsence. You will love me for it. My credit card will not.

The online boutique was founded in 2009, but I've just recently discovered it. The shop prides itself on "scouring the planet for indie designers, artists, and aficiandos." Translation: they have a killer inventory chock-full of indie + vintage inspired pieces with a modern flair. I'm loving the variety that Threadsence has to offer, and couldn't help but share it with you all! Check out some of my favorite pieces...

For the Home

Right now my roommate and I are house hunting. I have yet to live in the same place for more than a year since leaving home for college five years ago.  Five homes. Five moves. Five places. I'm exhausted just thinking about it...but here I, am doing it again! As hectic as the process is, I honestly like the change of scenery, and I'm ready for something new... again. Maybe, just maybe,  this will be the last move for a while.

As we're searching for our next home sweet home, my mind has drifted from fashion to home decor (only temporarily of course). To celebrate my last five places here are five items I'm lusting after, and here's hoping we find perfect home number six!

Going Green

For whatever reason, green has never been my go-to hue. Maybe I'm scarred from the kelly green tafetta dresses I had to wear at the holidays as a child, or maybe it's because the color has always reminded me of grass, and I've never been much of a wilderness woman. Regardless, there's good news for us green-skeptics. Lighter and brighter tones have been added to the mix this season and I'm actually loving these shades. Here's to embracing a new color, and to a very happy and safe St. Patrick's Day!

Weekend Snapshots

Just a little glimpse into my weekend...

The opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Excuse the terrible iphone picture... much better ones are coming soon.

After watching The Rum Diaries last week I was much more impressed with Amber Heard's bright red nails than the movie. She served as the inspiration for my most recent mani. I'm loving this color.

Again, sorry for the awful picture, but I couldn't not share this part of my weekend. William Fitzsimmons is one of my favorite artists and I got to see him in concert last night. If you've never heard of him check out this song
